Solmar Learning Center

Felton Institute, 199 Shotwell Street, San Francisco, CA

An early childhood education center that nurtures and excites the youngest students

The Felton Institute is one of the city’s oldest public service providers and today offers high-quality early childhood education to families across the city. As part of the Casa Adelante - 2828 16th St project, Felton built a new early childhood education center to provide for Mission neighborhood families. The center includes classrooms for infants, toddlers, and pre-k, with dedicated outdoor play space, a community room, and teacher and administrator offices.

The design nods to the history of the Mission with colorful flags, natural hues (blues, greens, yellows), and healthy materials (wood, tile). Together with the other non-profit tenants at Casa Adelante, the project will bring needed services to the neighborhood, while fulfilling Felton’s mission of service for a whole lifetime, across generations.
